In the case of communal violence spread after an objectionable social media post in Yawat village of Pune district, the police have so far arrested 15 people and five FIRs have been registered against more than 500.

The incident took place on Friday (August 1) in Daund Tehsil area, where tension spread between two communities over the post on WhatsApp. Many vehicles and shops were set arson during the violence and the police had to use lathicharge and tear gas to control the crowd.

Main incidents of violence and police action

The police have so far registered 5 FIRs, out of which four FIRs are against more than 500 unknown and known people. According to PTI, the violent mob arson and vandalized a bike, two cars, a religious place and a bakery.

15 accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody till 6 August. The youth who posted an objectionable post has also been arrested, who had been living in the same village for years. Now prohibitory orders are in force and the deployment of SRPF and social media monitoring continues.

Administration and reaction of leaders

Pune Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill made it clear that the initial investigation has not received any well -planned conspiracy, although the investigation is still on. The police had immediately controlled the situation and now there is peace in the village. Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Birader said that the village is being monitored with the help of drones.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that a young man had posted an objectionable post, which mentioned the case related to a priest, which provoked people. He said that strict action will be taken against those who put such posts.

Several senior officials, including MLA from Daund Assembly, Rahul Kul, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and IG Sunil Phulari of Kolhapur Range reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Ajit Pawar said that the accused youth is originally a resident and laborer of Nanded, who had posted objectionable posts related to an incident in Madhya Pradesh. According to the villagers, the situation is now normal and there is a harmony between the communities again.

According to police officials, the mob got angry and set a motorcycle on fire and damaged a bakery. The anger of the crowd was so high that he also attacked some temporary religious structures, shops and houses.

About 1000 people involved in the crowd

Police say that about 1000 people gathered at three-four different places and joined the sabotage. The special thing is that he especially targeted the properties of those who were not natives of the village and settled from outside for employment.

According to the police, on July 26, a case of alleged insult to the idol of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj came to light in the village, due to which the tension in the village had already been born. The situation was handled at that time and the accused was arrested.

After this, on 31 July, the Hindu Jan Aakrosh Morcha was also taken out in the village, which was concluded peacefully. But now the latest social media post again spoiled the atmosphere.

CM and Deputy CM response

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacted to the incident during an event in Pune and said that some people deliberately put objectionable posts to spread tension in the society. He said that strict action will be taken against such people. He assured that the situation in Yavat is currently under control and people of both communities are trying to maintain peace together.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited the spot and told that the post of post is a resident of Nanded and works daily wage. He had posted a post related to an incident in Madhya Pradesh, which spread resentment among the people of Yavat. Now the situation is under control and the police is taking vigilance. No one should spread rumors or wrong information.
