The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has initiated action to withdraw all cases against the accused in the 2015 mob lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri, Greater Noida. District’s Additional District Government Advocate Bhag Singh Bhati said on Saturday that the state government has sent a formal request to withdraw the prosecution.

Bhag Singh Bhati, additional district government lawyer of the district, said, “A letter has been received from the government regarding withdrawal of the case against all the accused in the Akhlaq murder case. The application has been submitted in the Surajpur court and it will be heard on December 12.”

What did the lawyer of Akhlaq’s family say?

Lawyer Yousuf Saifi, representing Akhlaq’s family, said he had not yet seen the official documents. “I have just heard about it. I will be able to comment only after seeing the documents before the hearing or on the date of hearing,” he said.

The matter is of year 2015

Actually, this matter is of 28 September 2015. In Bisahada village of Greater Noida, an alleged announcement was made over the loudspeaker that Akhlaq had killed a cow and kept its meat in the fridge, after which the mob entered his house and beat him to death. While trying to save Akhlaq, his son Danish also suffered serious injuries.

Akhlaq’s wife had filed a complaint

Akhlaq’s wife Ikraman lodged a complaint at Jarcha police station the same night, in which 10 named and four-five unidentified people were accused. Akhlaq and Danish were taken to a private hospital in Noida, where Akhlaq was declared dead and Danish was later referred to the ‘Army Research and Referral’ hospital in Delhi. A decade after the incident, the case is pending in the district court in Surajpur, Greater Noida.
