Rahul Gandhi Attacks on PM Modi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative. He said that this scheme, launched with big promises in 2014, neither flooded the factories in the country nor got employment to the youth. On the contrary, the manufacturing capacity of the country has come down to just 14% and unemployment among the youth is at a record level.

Rahul Gandhi shared a video on the social media platform X (East Twitter) and wrote, “Make in India ‘promised the factory boom. So why is the manufacturing records at a low level? Why the unemployment of the youth is increasing? And why has imports doubled from China? The art of giving slogans to Modi ji has come, but he is felt in the solution.”

Youth dreams incomplete, China earning profit
Rahul Gandhi, while referring to the meeting with two young Shivam and Saif at Nehru Place in New Delhi, said that both of them are skilled, talented and hardworking youth, but they are not getting the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Rahul Gandhi said, “We only assemble, ask for goods from outside, but do not make real construction. China is earning profit and our youth are missing behind.”

He termed India’s current economic policy as unbalanced and opportunistic. Rahul said that since 2014, the contribution of manufacturing sector has fallen to 14%, which is very worrying. He also alleged that imports from China have doubled in the past years, which has directly affected the small industries of the country.

Expressing deep concern over the government’s industry policy, Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi has no new idea now. He also claimed that the PLI scheme which was discussed a lot about the scheme, is now being ended silently. Modi ji has now given up hope of increasing Indian industries.

“If India will not make it, it will only buy”
Rahul Gandhi warned that if India does not increase its construction capacity, then we will only become a market for other countries. He said that India now needs a fundamental change with honest reforms and financial support. Rahul Gandhi said, “We do not just have to be a market, but to become a producer. If we do not build here, we will always buy from those who do. The needles of the clock are going on fast.”

For the first time, this data of unemployment has been released on monthly basis in the country. In this unemployment data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on Thursday, it has been told that the number of women in the number of unemployed youth is more.

More unemployment in men

The unemployment rate in men was 5.2 percent, while in women this rate was 5 percent. During this period, unemployment rate among people in the age group of 15 to 29 across the country was 13.8 percent. If we talk about urban areas, the unemployment rate here was 17.2 percent, while in rural areas it was 12.3 percent. During this study, it has also been learned that the unemployment rate among women in the age group of 15 to 29 was 14.4 percent (rural and urban) across the country, while in cities it was 23.7 and 10.7 percent in villages.

Unemployment rate was recorded at 13.6 percent among men in the age group of 15 to 29 years in the country, while it was 15 percent in cities and 13 percent in villages. The data shows that the labor force participation rate (LFPR) was 55.6 percent among people aged 15 years and above during the month of April 2025. The participation rate in rural areas was 58.0 percent while in urban areas it was 50.7 percent. In rural and urban areas, LFPR was 79.0 percent and 75.3 percent respectively among men aged 15 years and above.

First time monthly unemployment data

During the month of April 2025, the rate of labor force participation in women aged 15 years and above in rural areas was 38.2 percent. The LFPR refers to the percentage of individuals involved in the labor force (ie working, working, seeker or available for work).

The labor population ratio (WPR) defines the ratio of people working in the total population. Statistics show that in April, WPR was 55.4 percent among people aged 15 years and above in rural areas. In April, this ratio was 47.4 percent in urban areas, while the overall WPR 52.8 percent at the national level was recorded.

In rural and urban areas, WPR was 36.8 percent and 23.5 percent respectively among women aged 15 years and above. At the national level, the overall female WPR of the same age group was 32.5 percent. Considering the need for high -frequency labor force indicators with upgraded coverage, the sample method of PLFS has been improved since January 2025. A total of 7,511 first phase samplement units have been surveyed across the country during April, 2025. The number of families in the survey was 89,434 (49,323 in rural areas and 40,111 in urban areas) while the number of persons conducted was 3,80,838 (2,17,483 in rural areas and 1,63,355 in urban areas).
