Zimbabwe has announced its team for T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistani-origin Sikandar Raza is the captain, who is ranked second in the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings. Before Zimbabwe, 7 countries including India have announced their World Cup team.

Sikandar Raza is at second place in the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings with 289 rating points. He is an experienced player, who plays T20 leagues with many big players around the world. They will benefit from this in big events like the World Cup.

Zimbabwe cricket team is included in Group B in the T20 World Cup 2026, in which they are accompanied by Australia, Ireland, Oman and Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe will play all its group stage matches in Sri Lanka.

Teams from 8 countries announced so far

Zimbabwe is the 8th country, which has announced its team for the T20 World Cup. BCCI had declared its team on 20th December itself. Today Australia and South Africa also announced their teams. So far, India, Australia, Sri Lanka, Oman, England, South Africa, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe teams have been announced.

Let us tell you that all the countries have to submit their teams to ICC by 8th January. The deadline for making changes in the squad is 31 January. Talking about the format, 20 teams have been divided into groups of 5-5. 2 teams from each group will go to the Super 8 round, after which there will be a knockout stage.

Till the time of writing the news, Ireland, West Indies, Bangladesh, Italy, Nepal, New Zealand, Canada, UAE, America, Namibia, Netherlands and Pakistan have not announced their squads.

A mountain of sorrow has fallen in the house of Zimbabwe’s T20 team captain Sikandar Raza. On Monday, his younger brother Mohammad Mahdi died at the age of 13. Mahdi was buried in Warren Hills Cemetery on Tuesday. Zimbabwe Cricket Board confirmed that Sikandar Raza’s brother was born with a disease called haemophilia.

Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder in which blood does not clot. The board further said that Mahdi’s health was not good for the last few days. Zimbabwe Cricket Board has expressed its deepest condolences to Sikandar Raza and his family.

Sikandar Raza’s broken heart

According to the statement issued by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board, Mohammed Mahdi died on 29 December in Harare. He lived only 13 years and was buried a day later in Warren Hills Cemetery. Sikandar Raza has also reacted to the social media post made by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board. He expressed his pain by sharing a broken heart emoji.

Sikandar Raza was last seen playing a cricket match in ILT20 2025. In this tournament, Raza scored 171 runs in 10 matches and also took 10 wickets. Despite Raza’s brilliant performance, his team Sharjah Warriors failed to make it to the playoffs.

Sikandar Raza will now be seen playing for Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026. He is the current captain of Zimbabwe T20 team. Zimbabwe has been placed in Group B along with Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Oman. Zimbabwe will start its T20 World Cup campaign from February 9, where it will face Oman in the first match.

In the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan, Zimbabwe has surprised Sri Lanka by defeating it by 67 runs. This was the second match of the tri-series, in which the Zimbabwean team, playing first, had scored 162 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, but in response, the Sri Lankan team got bundled out for only 95 runs. Captain Sikandar Raza was adjudged man of the match for his impressive performance of scoring 47 runs and taking one wicket.

Zimbabwe lost by 5 wickets in the first match of the tri-series. This time Zimbabwe’s batsmen and bowlers left no stone unturned to defeat Sri Lanka in every field.
