Rain has dealt a huge blow to Australia in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Due to continuous rain, the match between Zimbabwe and Ireland has been canceled without toss. With this, Zimbabwe team has qualified for the Super-8, and Australia is out of the league stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This is the first time since the 2009 T20 World Cup that the Australian team has been out of the tournament at the league stage itself.

The match between Zimbabwe and Ireland was very important for Australia, but due to rain this match has been canceled. This match was to be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, but it was raining in Pallekele since morning. There was continuous torrential rain during the match and after waiting for about two and a half hours the match was declared cancelled.

If Zimbabwe had lost today then Australia’s semi-final hopes would have remained intact. The Kangaroo team was praying for Ireland’s victory today. However, rain spoiled their plans. Zimbabwe has performed brilliantly so far in this tournament. Sikandar Raza’s team had created the biggest upset of the World Cup by defeating Australia. After losing to Zimbabwe, Kangaroo also lost to Sri Lanka on Monday. Now the Australian team is out of the tournament.

Zimbabwe team has reached the Super-8 of T20 World Cup for the first time. Earlier, Zimbabwe had gone to Super-12 in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Talking about the Super-8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe is the seventh team which has qualified. Earlier, the teams of India, England, West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand had gone to the Super-8. Now there is a war between Pakistan and USA for the last spot. If the Pakistan team loses its last league match then it will also be out of the tournament.
