Demand for extradition of Rana for years
India had been demanding Rana’s extradition for years. Rana approached every US court to stop it, but he did not get relief from the Supreme Court. On 9 April, the US marshals handed over it to India at Los Angeles Airport.
Rana will have to face trial in 10 criminal cases in India
Tahwwur Hussain Rana is accused of involvement in 26/11 Mumbai attacks, in which more than 160 people were killed. These included 6 American citizens. Rana will have to face trial in 10 criminal cases in India.
Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin Tahwwur Rana has been accused of murder, conspiracy, involvement in terrorist activities and preparing fake documents. India alleges that Rana helped his childhood friend and US citizen David Coleman Headley, which could make Reiki to attack Mumbai.
Headley trained Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Pakistan and was planning possible attacks in India. Rana allegedly appointed Headley as the manager of the Mumbai office of his immigration business, while Headley had no experience of this field. Apart from this, Rana also helped Headley in false documents and visa application.
Rana does not regret attack
The Government of India says that Rana had no regrets even after the attacks. He told Headley that ‘Indians should have got this’ and had also said to give the biggest valor award of Pakistan to the 9 terrorists killed.
This is not the first time Rana has taken action in cases related to terrorism. In 2013, Rana was sentenced to 14 years in jail by a US court, when he was found guilty in a conspiracy to attack a newspaper in Denmark. In the same case, David Headley also confessed to the blame in 12 terrorist cases and was sentenced to 35 years.
