Taiwan on chinese spy: According to Taiwan’s official data, the count of people who spied for China in Taiwan has increased in recent years. Meanwhile, a district court of Taipei sentenced 4 Taiwan soldiers on Wednesday (26 March) for spying for China.
The court said, “Out of the four Taiwanese soldiers found guilty of spying for China, 3 were soldiers of the unit watching the security of Taiwan’s President’s office and another soldier was posted in the Information and Telecommunication Command of Taiwan’s Defense Ministry, who has been sentenced to jail on charges of leaking and photographing the country’s confidential information.”
According to official data, China targets Taiwan’s serving and retired people to attempt to infiltrate Taiwan.
Announced to restore military judges for disposal of espionage cases
It is noteworthy that the court of Taiwan has taken this step after the announcement of reinstatement of military judges on behalf of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-Tea this month. The President had announced a recast scheme of military judges to hear the cases of Chinese espionage and Taiwanese military personnel.
Taipei’s District Court made a statement
Taipei’s District Court said in a statement on Wednesday (March 26), “Four Taiwanese soldiers have been sentenced to break the country’s national security law. Their work has cheated the country and also endangered the security of the nation.”
The court further said in the statement, “The four Taiwanese soldiers should have kept the internal information of the army secret, which they have taken to China’s intelligence agents for the last few months. For this they have been sentenced to jail from 5 years to 10 months to 10 years.” The court said, “The soldiers have taken this crime between 2022 and 2024. For which they were paid from about 260,000 New Taiwanese dollars to 660,000 New Taiwanese dollars.” However, the court did not say what kind of information was leaked by the four soldiers to China.
