This factory was announced in the year 2024 and its annual production capacity will be around 2.5 lakh vehicles. When this plant starts functioning fully, more than 5,000 people are expected to get employment here. At present, the demand for premium and luxury cars is not much in India, but keeping in mind the increasing demand and exports in the coming time, this factory will prove to be a strong base.
Which cars can be made in India?
- Tata Motors has not yet clarified which JLR vehicles will be manufactured at the Panapakkam plant. However, according to media reports, Range Rover Evoque may be the first car whose assembly will start here. In future, other models of JLR can also be made in this plant. The special thing is that there is also a facility to make electric cars here, which indicates that JLR’s electric vehicles can also be made in India in future.
Eye on luxury segment and exports
- Currently, Tata Motors assembles JLR cars in CKD manner at its Pune plant. With the opening of the Chennai plant, the company wants to increase the production of luxury cars in the country.
