TCS Layoffs: IT firm’s difficulties increased due to the decision of trimming thousands of staff, summons of the Ministry of Labor

TCS Layoffs: The Central Government has taken the decision of IT firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to retrench and delay new recruitments of about 12,000 employees. The Ministry of Labor has sent summons to TCS to appear to TCS on August 1, Friday. According to the CNBC Awaaz report, this move of the Ministry of Labor has been taken after a complaint given to the Chief Labor Commissioner by IT employees’ NAST Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES).

Complaint against TCS

According to the reports, this summons has been done by the Ministry of Labor for two reasons, in which the decision to retrench about 2 percent of the workforce ie 12000 employees and the appointment of 600 professionals is to be stopped. After this, taking action on the complaint of AIETES, the Chief Labor Commission has directed the CCS to appear on August 1 and sought a detailed details on both these cases.

The ‘NAST Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has termed the retrenchment of 12,000 employees as immoral, inhuman and illegal. According to the organization, TCS has violated legal provisions during the trimming. Before the removal of any employee serving more than a year, it is mandatory to give a one -month notice or salary in lieu of it, to give statutory trimming compensation and inform the government. But TCS has not followed any of these rules.

What NITES said in the complaint?

According to PTI, Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES, has described the move as “the collective dismissal hidden in the corporate word -in -law”. He warned that if a large company like TCS is allowed to be trimmed without proper procedure, it will become a dangerous example for the industry. The NITES has urged the government to take immediate cognizance of the matter, issue notices to TCS, stop all pruning.

Earlier on Sunday, TCS had said that the decision to lay down is part of its strategy to become a ‘ready -made organization for future’. Its center is invested in adopting technology, artificial intelligence (AI), market expansion and workforce reorganization. TCS has also said to give proper benefits to employees who are victims of retrenchment, cooperation in finding new jobs, give consultation and support.
