Team India, the winner of the 2025 Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup, has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award. For the historic achievement of becoming world champion, the Indian women’s cricket team has been nominated for the most prestigious award in the sports world. The Indian women’s cricket team has been nominated for the Laureus Team of the Year award for winning the World Cup title for the first time last year. Laureus Sport confirmed the nomination on Tuesday. This big news has been shared by BCCI itself.

The Indian team is the first women’s cricket team to be nominated for this award. This is a recognition of the team’s excellent performance in the World Cup. The Indian women’s team had achieved the biggest target in the history of women’s ODI cricket during their victory in the semi-finals against Australia.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team has been named along with big teams like the England women’s football team, the European Ryder Cup team, French Football League team Paris Saint-Germain and the McLaren Formula One team.

Laureus Sport issued a press release saying, “In the Cricket World Cup semi-final against Australia, the Indian women’s cricket team achieved the highest target (339) in the history of One Day International cricket. After this, the team won its first title against South Africa and is the first women’s cricket team to be nominated for this award.”

With this, the team has joined the exclusive group of Indian players nominated for the men’s Laureus category, which includes Vinesh Phogat (2019), Neeraj Chopra (2022), and Rishabh Pant (2025).
