India and South Korea have ended 2–2 in the Hockey Asia Cup. Team India had won all three matches in the Asia Cup so far, but South Korea has become the first team to stop it on a draw in the tournament. This was a super-4 phase match, in which Korea’s Jihung Yang played an important role in getting India drawn 2 goals alone. At the same time, Hardik Singh and Mandeep Singh scored one goal for India.
India had just defeated Kazakhstan 15–0 in Group A match 2 days ago. Team India failed to retain the same rhythm against South Korea in the first match of Super-4. In the last quarter, Team India was trailing 1-2 till the 53rd minute. Then Mandeep Singh dodged the Korean defenders and gave India a 2-2 equal. In the last 8 minutes, India got 2 big opportunities to gain an edge, but the team could not win.
Hardik Singh scored a goal in the eighth minute to give India a 1-0 lead. The first quarter was only a few minutes left, when Jihung Yang scored in the first 12th minute and then scored a goal in the 14th minute and overturned the match. India had to wait for 45 minutes to score the second goal, because Mandeep Singh went to the 53rd minute to distinguish the Korean defense.
This was Team India’s first match in the Super-4 phase. Due to the draw, India got only one point, due to which it is currently in second place in the table. India is yet to face Malaysia on 4 September and then China on 6 September. Two teams living in the top-2 of Super-4 table will reach the finals, which is to be played on 7 September.
