WTC Points Table: The 2-0 defeat at the hands of South Africa in the home Test series has given a big blow to Team India. Not only this, India has also suffered a huge loss in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC). After the humiliating 408-run defeat in Guwahati, India’s points were deducted and it slipped directly below Pakistan to fifth position. This decline is a big blow to Team India’s hopes of reaching the finals.
Defeat increased India’s problems
Team India’s performance in the Guwahati Test was very poor. The defeat by 408 runs is not just a statistic, but is the biggest defeat in terms of runs in Indian Test history. India will never want to remember this series against South Africa. Two matches, two losses, and many questions. The anger of the fans was also clearly visible on social media.
With the defeat, India’s PCT (Percentage of Points) has fallen to 48.15 and due to this Pakistan has moved up to fourth position. Whereas India reached 5th position, a position from where the path to the final becomes very difficult.
Poor performance so far in WTC
India has played 9 Test matches so far in the current WTC cycle. Out of these, the team won only 4, while the same number of matches turned into defeats. One match was a draw. Consecutive losses and unstable batting have weakened India’s position in the points table.
Now Team India will go on a tour of Sri Lanka in August next year, where a two-match Test series will be played. After this, India will host New Zealand in October-November. Both these series will be like ‘do-or-die’ for India, because the path to reach the final now depends only on victory.
South Africa wrote a new story by defeating India at home
On the other hand, South Africa created big history by winning the Test series in India for the first time in 25 years. With this victory, the PCT of the Proteas team has increased to 75 and now they are in second place just behind Australia. Despite South Africa playing only four Test matches, their performance so far has been excellent.
Only two teams will get a place in the WTC final. Australia is currently at the top, followed by teams like South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka. In such a situation, now every match will be like a knockout for India.
