There is speculation on social media that Sanju Samson celebrated aggressively after playing the match-winning innings in the Super-8 round against West Indies. Due to this way of celebration, the International Cricket Council (ICC) can ban him, due to which the fans are very upset.
Sanju Samson may be banned?
After hitting the winning four against West Indies at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Sunday, March 1, Sanju Samson threw his helmet on the ground and thanked God by sitting on his knees. On this, some people believe that this action of ‘throwing’ the helmet may come under ICC’s ‘misuse of cricket equipment’ rule. At present, there has been no official confirmation that ICC is going to take any action against Sanju Samson. However, there is discussion on social media that if Samson is found guilty then he may be banned for one match.
What does the ICC rule say?
Under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players must not misuse cricket equipment. This includes throwing helmets, bats, stumps or any other equipment. Even if this action is not done out of anger, but out of emotions, it can still be reviewed and action can be taken.
This rule also states that if any action causes damage to the equipment or property of the stadium, it will be considered a violation of the rule. Recently, Scotland opening batsman George Munsey was given one demerit point for throwing his helmet after being dismissed in a T20 World Cup 2026 match. That means action is possible in such cases.
