The agreement between BCCI and Indian cricket team’s title sponsor company Dream 11 is over. Since 2023, Dream 11 was the title sponsor of Team India, but after the recent new online gaming bill was implemented, the agreement of Fantasy Sports Company has ended. This has been confirmed by BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia himself.
The BCCI has started the process of finding new sponsorship. There are now a few days left for the Asia Cup to start, before some other companies, including the automobile company Toyota, have expressed their desire to signed a sponsorship agreement. Although there is an agreement before the Asia Cup, there is very little possibility.
A few days ago, the online gaming bill law has passed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Under this rule, real money gaming has been banned in India, strict laws have been made against it. Only after this the agreement between BCCI and Dream 11 ended, which was to run till 2026.
Devjit Saikia told PTI, “After the new rules, the deal of BCCI sponsorship cannot be kept with Dream 11 or other gaming company. There is no scope for it now under the new rule. Now we are looking for other options and its process has started. We are looking for the sponsor and the process is not yet completed. When something is decided, we will give information to the media.”
The agreement was signed between BCCI and Dream 11 for $ 44 million
Dream 11 bought the rights of the title sponsor of the Indian cricket team in 2023. It was a deal for 3 years, which was to be run till 2026. However, after the online gaming bill, it ended 1 year ahead of time. Dream 11 bought these officers for $ 44 million (about Rs 358 crore).
New agreement is difficult before Asia Cup 2025
The Asia Cup in UAE will be held from 9 September to 28 September. The first match of Team India is with the UAE on September 10, in which only 2 weeks are left. The official said that the new sponsorship agreement is difficult before the Asia Cup. He said, “The process is going on for the new title sponsor of the Indian cricket team. We have to advertise for it, after which proposals will come. We will take a decision by reviewing them, it will take time.
