There is a situation of tension between India and Bangladesh, but now this matter seems to be deepening. India’s External Affairs Ministry summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Riyaz Hamidullah on Tuesday (23 December). This is the second time this week that the Foreign Ministry has summoned the Bangladeshi Ambassador and raised objection. on the other hand Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma was summoned.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that Verma was conveyed Dhaka’s “serious concern” over the “unpleasant incidents” that took place outside the premises of the Bangladesh High Commission and Residence in New Delhi on December 20, 2025 and the “sabotage carried out by various extremist elements” at the visa center in Siliguri on December 22.
Bangladesh is spreading lies
There has been violence in Bangladesh several times in the last few days, but it is spreading lies against India. Dhaka said in its statement that Bangladesh condemns such acts of deliberate violence or intimidation against diplomatic establishments. he also said‘The Government of Bangladesh calls upon the Government of India to thoroughly investigate these incidents, take all necessary measures to prevent recurrence of such acts and ensure the security of Bangladesh embassies and related establishments in India.’
Bangladesh side said that Dhaka hopes that the Indian government will immediately take appropriate steps in accordance with its international and diplomatic obligations for the dignity and security of embassy personnel and establishments.
Summoned for the second time in 10 days
This is the second time in the last 10 days that Verma has been summoned to the External Affairs Ministry. During the tenure of the interim government, the High Commissioner has been summoned at least six times in connection with various incidents. Earlier, Verma was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs on 14 December. India’s Ministry of External Affairs had summoned High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah on December 17, citing security concerns around the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
