West indies new test captain roston chase: There has been a lot of stir in Test cricket recently. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from the Test, due to the World Test Championship Final (WTC 2025 Final), many players from Australia and South Africa can miss the playoff stage of IPL 2025. Now the captain of the West Indies Test team has been made a player who has not played any Test match for 800+ days. Craig Braithwaite was commanding the Caribbean Test team for the last 8 years, but now this responsibility has been handed over to Roston Chase.
The West Indies Cricket Board said in its statement that Roston Chase has been selected from a difficult and modern selection process. There were 6 candidates for the captaincy, who were interviewed and their leadership skills were tested in many ways. At the same time, the team’s new head coach Darren Sammy said that Roston Chase has the ability by which he can do the work of taking the team forward.
No Test played from 800+ Days
Roston Chase played the last Test against South Africa in March 2023. He has not been seen in white jersey since then. Despite this, giving him the captaincy of the Test team is a really shocking decision. Roston Chase is an all -rounder player, who has so far taken 85 wickets in addition to scoring 2,265 runs in his 49 -match Test career.
Why Craig Brathwaite removed
Craig Braithwaite first captained the West Indies Test team in 2017. Under his captaincy, West Indies played a total of 39 Test matches, out of which he got only 10 wins. It was 2022 when Brathwaite personally scored runs at an average of 62, but after that his form has also declined. Since 2023, Brathwaite has scored just 846 runs in 17 Tests.
