The second test between India and West Indies is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The number of spectators in the stadium shows that Delhiites are no longer interested in Test cricket. Like Ahmedabad, there is silence in the grounds of Delhi too. This is the same ground where Virat Kohli had come to play a domestic match this year. Despite it being a domestic match, the ground was packed with people. But in the international match between India and West Indies, most of the seats were seen empty.
When the seats were vacant in Ahmedabad Stadium, a fan’s post went viral. In that, BCCI was advised that Test matches should be held at such a place where people show interest in watching red-ball matches and tourism can also be done around it. Well, Indian batsmen are shining in this empty stadium, till the time of writing this article, Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored a century and Sai Sudarshan has scored a fifty.
The decreasing number of spectators also raises questions on the West Indies team. This is the same West Indies in which great players like Curtly Ambrose, Vivian Richards, Malcolm Marshall and Courtney Walsh once played. Defeating this Caribbean team was not within everyone’s reach. But now West Indies has become one of the lagging teams especially in Tests.
In the first Test against India, the West Indies team was able to score only 308 runs in both the innings. As a result, he had to face defeat in the Ahmedabad Test by a huge margin of an innings and 140 runs. It is very difficult for this West Indies team to survive against India. In such a situation, only a miracle can give West Indies victory over Team India. That means even the fans had already realized that only Team India would win in these matches, be it Ahmedabad or Delhi, why would any fan come to watch the match.
