Just 24 hours after US President Donald Trump received the FIFA Peace Award, bloody clashes have started once again in Thailand and Cambodia. Thailand has conducted an air-strike on Cambodia after a clash between soldiers. One soldier has been killed and four have been injured in the latest fighting, while people from both the countries have once again started migrating from the border areas.
According to the information, early Monday morning Thailand bombed Cambodia with F-16 fighter planes. This attack took place on a casino building in Cambodia, which Cambodian soldiers had converted into their base. Information about how many people have died in this air attack has not been revealed yet.
Thailand’s allegation
Thailand alleges that this air-strike took place after the attack on Cambodia. Cambodia has attacked Thai Army posts in the border areas. Thailand has accused the Cambodian army of provocative action in the border area. Movement of Cambodia’s tanks and rocket launchers has been seen in the border areas.
ceasefire violation charges
Both South-East Asian countries have accused each other of ceasefire violations. In the month of October this year, a ceasefire agreement was reached after the mediation of Trump and Malaysia. Trump had called this agreement a peace agreement, but within just two months, Thailand and Cambodia have defied the agreement and attacked each other.
Trump was given credit for making peace agreements
Last week, Trump was credited in America’s National Security Strategy report for brokering a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia. Two days ago, Trump was awarded the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) Peace Prize. Tension has been going on between Thailand and Cambodia since the month of July. During that time too, both the countries had carried out air strikes on each other, in which about 50 people lost their lives and lakhs of people had to evacuate the border area.
What is the reason for the dispute?
An ancient Hindu temple is at the root of the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, due to which these two countries belonging to ASEAN remain thirsty for each other’s blood. Actually, there is a big temple on the border of Thailand and Cambodia, which is known as Preah-Vihar and it is included in the UNESCO heritage list. This temple of Lord Shiva was built by the kings of the Khmer Empire of Cambodia between 9-12 century. Due to the presence of a disputed temple on the border, soldiers of Thailand and Cambodia clash here during patrolling, due to which military confrontation occurs from time to time. There has been a dispute between the two countries regarding this temple for the last 100 years.
