In Asia Cup 2025, India won the title by defeating Pakistan, but Team India has not received the trophy till date. Reason, Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and head of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Now that BCCI has prepared to raise this entire matter in the ICC meeting, Naqvi has lost his temper. It is reported that he is planning to keep himself missing from the Executive Board meeting of the International Cricket Council being held in Dubai and for this he has also made a new excuse.
Asia Cup trophy still under lock and key
On September 28, India won the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in the final. When the prize distribution ceremony took place after the match, the players of Team India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. Captain Suryakumar Yadav had already made it clear that “the team will not take the trophy from the hands of Naqvi.”
After this incident, Naqvi angrily left with the trophy and till date it has not been handed over to India. It is being told that the trophy is still locked in the ACC headquarters in Dubai.
Naqvi will stay away from ICC meeting
Now when BCCI is going to raise this issue officially in the ICC meeting, Naqvi seems to be retreating. According to media reports, he has given the excuse of “domestic political engagements” for his absence from the ICC meeting. However, PCB has not yet told what is the political matter that has made them so busy that they are not able to attend the most important meeting of cricket. Naqvi is also the Home Minister of Pakistan, but according to sources, the real reason is that he fears that BCCI may complain about him in the ICC meeting and action may be taken against him.
Who will replace Naqvi?
According to the report, Chief Operating Officer Sumair Saeed will represent PCB in the ICC meeting. He is going to participate in this meeting on 7th November. Some sources say that Naqvi may try to join the meeting remotely, but his presence is not certain.
BCCI warned
BCCI is adopting a strict stance on this matter. Board Secretary Devajit Saikia had recently said, “We had written a letter to the ACC Chairman 10 days ago requesting to return the trophy, but till now the trophy has not been received.” He had said that if the trophy is not given by 3rd November, he will raise this issue with ICC and now the same is going to happen. It is clear that India is no longer in a mood to leave this issue and if action is taken on this in the ICC meeting, then Naqvi’s chair may be in danger.
