Batsmen who played more than 500 balls in Test innings
Many cricketers including Gary Kirsten to Brian Lara and Sanath Jayasuriya have played 500 or more balls in the same Test innings. Talking about Indians, Cheteshwar Pujara is the only batsman who has played more than 500 balls in an innings. He did this feat in the Ranchi Test against Australia in the year 2017. Pujara played 525 balls in that innings and scored 202 runs.
Brian Lara has played more than 500 balls twice in the same Test innings. He once scored 400 runs by playing 582 balls, while in another innings he scored 375 runs in 538 balls. However, he is not the only cricketer who has done the work of playing 500 or more balls in a Test innings more than once.
One played 141 overs
The record for the longest innings in the case of balls in Test cricket history is named after England’s Leonard Hutton, playing 847 balls in the same innings in the match against Australia in 1938. He is the only batsman in the world to play 800 or more balls in a Test innings. He alone batted 141.1 overs. Hutton scored 364 runs in that match.
