GST Collection: In December 2025, the government’s earnings from GST increased by 6.1 percent compared to last year to about Rs 1.75 lakh crore. This was revealed in the latest official data released on January 1, 2026. This shows the strong economic activity of the country as well as proper adherence to tax rules. Let us tell you that during the financial year 2025-26 (April-December), the total GST collection had increased by 8.6 percent to about Rs 16.5 lakh crore, which is more than Rs 15.2 lakh crore collected in the same period last year.
Similarly, an increase was seen in the collection under Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST) in December 2025. On the other hand, a year-on-year decline was recorded in Integrated GST (IGST). However, based on all the data so far for the 2025-26 financial year, all the components CGST, SGST and IGST have shown good growth. This shows that the tax system is performing well overall and the role of the GST Council in simplifying it cannot be denied.
