The animated film ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ was released in theaters on July 25 and after years the audience got a chance to watch a pan India animated film in Hindi cinema. This film was liked by everyone from children to the elderly and the situation was such that the audience started taking off their slippers in the theaters because the film was based on our mythological texts and Lord Vishnu’s incarnation Narasimha, but do you know that director Ashwin Kumar had to mortgage everything to direct the film?
The animated film ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ broke all the box office earning records and crossed the Rs 300 crore mark. But it was difficult for director Ashwin Kumar to direct this film. Director Ashwin Kumar himself has revealed this while talking about the film in Shabdotsav 2026.
Why was ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ made?
Ashwin Kumar said- ‘I wanted a pan India spiritual film to be made, because after Jai Maa Santoshi made in 1975, no such film had come at the box office. That film had filled a wave of devotion to the mother within the audience and I wanted to make something like that pan India, but now times have changed, so I decided to make an animated film to tell the young generation about our scriptures and mythology.
House and jewelery mortgaged for film
Director Ashwin Kumar further said that this film was very special for him, because he had put everything at stake in the film. He said- ‘My wife is the producer of the film and he had mortgaged all his earnings, his wife’s jewelery and even the house.’ This film was very much liked by the audience and was a pan India hit.
Record breaking collection of ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’
The film ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ had earned more than Rs 300 crore at the box office, while the budget of the film was Rs 16 crore. The film had also left behind the Bollywood film ‘Mufasa the Lion King’ in terms of earnings, while ‘Mufasa the Lion King’ was dubbed in Hindi language by Shahrukh Khan in his own voice.
