Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) seems to be trapped in its own trap in the T20 World Cup controversy. Some high level officials of the International Cricket Council (ICC) may visit Bangladesh in the next two to three days. During this visit, the ICC delegation can discuss the issue of World Cup with BCB officials.
The 2026 T20 World Cup is going to start from 7th February. Bangladesh’s first match will be with West Indies on 7 February, which is to be played in Kolkata as per the current schedule. But BCB had refused to travel to India for the World Cup citing security reasons.
ICC and BCB will meet
It is being told that in the upcoming meeting of ICC and BCB, it is possible to discuss Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup and the venue of its matches. According to the current schedule, Bangladesh’s matches are to be held in Kolkata and Mumbai. Bangladesh Cricket Board is continuously showing attitude, it had demanded to shift its matches to Sri Lanka, but at present the ICC has rejected its demand.
Asif Nazrul is spitting poison
Recently, Bangladesh government’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul has been continuously spewing venom against India. He also put forward the proposal that the matches of Bangladesh team should be shifted to Pakistan. They crossed the limits and propagated the lie that ICC has accepted Bangladesh’s demand to change the venue and also admitted that there is a threat to the safety of Bangladeshi players in India. But BCB, in a recent statement, had denied the ICC giving any such approval.
Now it will be interesting to see what decision the ICC delegation takes after the meeting with BCB officials in the next few days.
