India and Sri Lanka are going to host the T20 World Cup to be held in 2026. A big update has come out regarding the semi-finals, finals and opening matches of the World Cup. According to The Indian Express, the first match and the last i.e. final match of the World Cup will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. One semi-final match will be hosted by Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. It is being told that the T20 World Cup will be played from 7 February to 8 March.
Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad had earlier hosted the first and final matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup. According to The Indian Express, if the semi-final match is played between India and Pakistan, it will be played in Colombo, while the other semi-final match will be played in Mumbai.
Sri Lanka is the co-host of the World Cup and World Cup matches will be played in a total of 7 grounds of both the countries. Matches to be held in India can be played in Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. At the same time, three grounds can be approved for the matches to be held in Sri Lanka. According to the report, any one ground can be chosen from Premadasa Stadium, Pallekele, Dambulla and Hambantota.
Nothing is clear yet regarding the venue of the warm-up matches. There are possibilities that Bengaluru may be given the opportunity to host some warm-up matches. Indian team’s matches can be held in big cities, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. ICC may announce the World Cup schedule in the next few days.
According to the same report, a meeting was held between some top officials of BCCI, in which it was decided that this time the World Cup matches should be organized in fewer cities as compared to the 2023 ODI World Cup. Each ground is expected to get 6 matches in the T20 World Cup.
