In the country’s capital Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius on Friday (March 6), although the AQI remained in the ‘moderate’ category. Friday was the hottest day of this season so far in Delhi. The maximum temperature was seven degrees above normal and crossed the maximum temperature of 34.3 degrees Celsius recorded on Thursday (March 5).
AQI 171 was recorded on Friday
The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 171 on Friday. The minimum temperature in Safdarjung was recorded at 17 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees above normal, while at Lodhi Road station it was 16.3 degrees Celsius, 4.3 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature recorded at Ridge station was 17.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature at Ayanagar was 17.6 degrees Celsius.

‘Indications of strong sunshine in the coming days’
Mahesh Palawat, vice president of meteorology and climate change department of ‘Skymet’, said, “There are indications of clear sky and bright sunshine in the coming days, due to which the temperature may gradually increase both in the morning and evening. The wind speed is also likely to increase in the coming days.”
According to station-wise data, the maximum temperature in Ridge was recorded at 34.7 degrees Celsius, 6.7 degrees above normal, while Lodhi Road recorded 34 degrees Celsius, seven degrees above normal.
At the same time, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius, 5.5 degrees above normal in Palam and 34.5 degrees Celsius, 7.4 degrees above normal in Ayanagar.
The sky will be clear on Saturday
The Meteorological Department said in its forecast that the sky will be clear on Saturday and the maximum temperature can be around 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature can be around 17 degrees Celsius. The 24-hour average AQI of the city was 172.
According to ‘CPCB’, AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 ‘severe’. The air quality early warning system for Delhi has predicted the air quality to be in the ‘poor’ category on Saturday.
