A 1400 km long transform fault line passes between Myanmar and the Andaman Spreading Centre. It connects the Andaman spreading center to the Sagaing area in the north. These areas together represent 46 percent of Myanmar’s population.
However, Yangon is far from the fault trace. It is in great danger due to dense population. In 1903, a strong earthquake of 7.0 magnitude occurred in Bago. Yangon was affected in this.
