Tata Motors is going to bring back its iconic SUV Tata Sierra in a new form in the Indian market. This is the same Sierra, which won the hearts of people in the 90s with its style and powerful looks. Now it will be re-introduced as a modern, technology-focused and powerful SUV. Although the company has not officially announced its launch date, but according to reports, this SUV can be seen on Indian roads in the coming few weeks.
Will compete with Grand Vitara and Seltos
- The new age Tata Sierra will be launched in the most competitive SUV segment of the Indian market. Its direct competition will be with vehicles like Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Toyota Hyrider and Honda Elevate. The biggest feature of this SUV will be that it will be launched in three different powertrain options – petrol, diesel and electric. With this, it will give more options to customers according to different needs and budget.
Engine and Power
- The diesel version of Tata Sierra will be equipped with the same engine as the Harrier. It is expected to get a 2.0-liter Kryotec engine which will generate 170 bhp power and 350 Nm torque. Talking about petrol version, initially it will be provided with 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. The company may also introduce its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine later, which will generate 170 bhp power and 280 Nm torque. Tata Sierra EV will probably use the powertrain taken from Harrier EV. It is expected that this version will give a range of around 500 km on a single charge, making it a long-range electric SUV.
New interior of Tata Sierra
- The interior of the new Tata Sierra has been made more premium and high-tech than before. This time the SUV has been given a triple screen setup. It includes a digital instrument cluster, a main touchscreen infotainment system, and a third display screen for the passenger. This setup gives a modern and luxury feel inside the car.
- Many advanced features have been provided in Tata Sierra to make driving easy and comfortable. It has the facility of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so that smartphones can be connected easily. Besides, it will also get OTA (Over-The-Air) update support, so that the system can be updated without going to the service center. Apart from this, the facility of wireless charger has been provided so that there is no need of cable for charging. The 360-degree camera provides complete visibility while parking and driving.
Safety and driving experience
- For safety, Tata Sierra has been provided with Level-2 ADAS safety system, which makes driving more safe. It also includes features like multi-airbag setup and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Also, the flat-bottom steering wheel makes driving feel sporty and comfortable.
Expected price and launch details
- Tata Motors has not revealed the price, but it is expected that the starting price of the new Tata Sierra may start from around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 25 lakh. The company may introduce it by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
