Despite India repeatedly rejecting third-party intervention and strongly opposing Donald Trump’s claims of mediation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday (December 30) said that China had mediated the India-Pakistan tension in May.
Speaking at an event on the international situation and China’s foreign relations in Beijing, Wang said the world has seen a sharp increase in conflicts and instability. “Local wars and cross-border conflicts have been seen more frequently this year than before,” he said. Geopolitical turmoil is continuously increasing.
What did the Chinese Foreign Minister say
According to the PTI report, Wang said that China has adopted a just approach in resolving international conflicts and has paid attention to addressing both its symptoms and root causes. Wang further said that to resolve the disputed issues, we mediated in Northern Myanmar, Iran’s nuclear issue, tensions between Pakistan and India, issues between Palestine and Israel, as well as the recent conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
India has rejected the claims of external mediation
This statement of Wang has come regarding Operation Sindoor conducted by India after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. India has been continuously saying that no third party intervened in this conflict that lasted for 4 days. A ceasefire was reached between India and Pakistan through military dialogue. In a press conference on May 13, the Ministry of External Affairs had rejected the claims of external mediation.
China is Pakistan’s largest arms supplier
New Delhi has repeatedly said that there is no scope for third party interference in the matters between India and Pakistan. Questions have been continuously raised regarding China’s involvement in the conflict that took place in May. During this period, China provided military assistance to Pakistan. China is Pakistan’s largest arms supplier, supplying more than 81 percent of military equipment to Pakistan.
