Every year there is great curiosity among parents about admission in nursery, KG and first class in Delhi. The admission process for the 2026-27 academic session in private schools of the capital is now going to start once again. The Directorate of Education has issued instructions to make the admission criteria public by schools from today i.e. 4th December. Along with this, online and offline application forms will also be available from this date.
Main criteria for admission
This year also the Delhi government has implemented the same criteria which have been used in previous years. Based on these criteria, children will be selected according to the point system.
Neighborhood (School Proximity) – Marks will be given on the basis of distance between the children’s home and school. To ensure that small children do not have to travel long distances and can avoid traffic and pollution.
- Sibling Priority – If a child’s brother or sister is already studying in the same school, then he will be given additional marks.
- Alumni Parent – If the parents are alumni of that school, then the child will get preference.
- Staff Ward – Children of school staff will be given priority in admission.
Application process and last date
Application forms will be available from 4 December 2025. The last date for submission of applications has been fixed as 27 December 2025. Schools will update their admission criteria and point system on the website by November 28.
The directorate has clarified that schools can charge only Rs 25 as registration fee. No parent can be forced to buy the prospectus or pay additional fees, so that the common people are not burdened financially.
Emphasis on transparency and convenience
The admission process has been designed keeping transparency and fairness in mind. The government will make the first list, second list and the dates of the remaining processes public by March 2026. Nursery admission in Delhi is a matter of concern for lakhs of families every year. Due to limited number of private schools, the number of children applying is quite high. For this reason Delhi government has implemented point based system.
Purpose of point system
The purpose of selection on the basis of neighborhood i.e. distance is the convenience and safety of children. Sibling and Alumni criteria are designed to give priority to parents and families. Giving priority to staff wards is in the interest of the children of school staff.
