Jagannath rath yatra 2025: On the second date of Ashadh month, Lord Jagannath goes on a tour with Bhai Balabhadra and Subhadra. The festival of Jagannath Rath Yatra will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2025. According to the View Panchang, 27 June is the second date of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. The sunrise will be 5:09 am and sunset will take place at 6:52 pm. Nath Jagannath of Jag will go on a tour with his brother and sister in particular time.

What is the purpose of this journey?

Special cleaning of Gundicha temple before Rath Yatra

A day before the Rath Yatra, special cleaning and decoration of Gundicha temple is done. This is called ‘Gundicha Marjan’. In this, devotees of God participate with full enthusiasm, which makes the temple a symbol of devotion and purity. On the fourth day of the Rath Yatra, another important tradition ‘Hera Panchami’ is organized. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi goes to Gundicha temple in search of her husband Lord Jagannath. It is a special cultural and religious scene, which reflects the depth of the relationship between God and Goddess.

Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra again return to their main temples after spending eight days in Gundicha temple. This return is called ‘Bahu Yatra’. On the way to return, God stays in a special place, which is known as ‘Mausi Maa Mandir’. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Ardhishini and its religious significance is very deep.

The journey ends before Devshayani Ekadashi

This journey of Lord Jagannath ends before Devshayani Ekadashi, because after that they are absorbed in Yoganidra for four months of Chaturmas. This time is considered to be of spiritual practice, restraint and service.
