Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket in May last year. Earlier, he had also said goodbye to T20 format. Now he plays for Team India only in ODI format. Now talking about Kohli’s Test retirement, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that he feels sad that Kohli left Test and continued playing ODI.

Sanjay Manjrekar shared a video on Instagram, in which he gave his opinion about this. He said that at the time when Joe Root is making new records in Test cricket, Virat Kohli’s departure from Test cricket is sad. He said that Root, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith are strengthening their Test career.

‘Did not try to correct the shortcomings’

Sanjay Manjrekar said that Virat Kohli’s performance was not good in the 5 years before his retirement from Test, but he did not try to improve his technical and mental shortcomings. According to him, if Kohli wanted, he could have worked on these shortcomings and could have even sat out of the team for some time. The former cricketer said that he was more disappointed by the fact that Virat decided to leave Test cricket and continue playing in ODIs.

According to Sanjay Manjrekar, Test is more difficult for a top-order batsman than ODI. It requires more patience, technical and mental strength. The test is the most difficult. ‘It would have been understandable if he had retired from all three formats, but it did not seem right to him to leave Tests and continue playing in ODIs.’

Virat Kohli played 123 matches in his Test career, in which he scored a total of 9230 runs in 210 innings. He has 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries to his name in Tests.
