The Supreme Court has ordered to maintain the status quo in Sambhal’s royal Jama Masjid-Harihar Temple case. On August 25, the Supreme Court will hear the case, till then the Hindu petitioners have been asked to maintain the status quo. On Friday (August 22, 2025), the Supreme Court has given this direction on the petition of the Masjid Committee.

The Masjid Committee has challenged the decision of the Allahabad High Court in the Supreme Court. The High Court justified the survey order of the mosque given by Sambhal’s Civil Court. The petitioner says that the High Court justified the order of the lower court of the survey of the campus. It also said that the mosque does not come under the purview of the Place of Varships Act.

The Supreme Court spoke about the hearing on Monday. Till then, the notice was issued to the Hindu petitioners, directing them to maintain the status quo. The bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice AS Chandurkar passed this order.

It has been claimed about Sambhal Jama Masjid that it was constructed by breaking the Shri Harihar temple, while the Muslim side says that this mosque is of the Mughal period.
