Indian -origin cyber security expert Ataullah Baig has filed a case against Meta. Beg was the cyber security head of WhatsApp owned by Meta from 2021 to 2025. They allege that there are many such flaws related to cyber security in the system of Whatsapp, which can cause users’ data compromise. He says that when he informed this security flaw to the higher officials including Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, his point was ignored. At the same time, the company took action on them and fired him.
What are the allegations made in the trial?
It is said in the trial that about 1,500 engineers of Mata have direct access to WhatsApp user data and no monitoring is being kept on it. WhatsApp developers can steal the contact information, IPedres and profile photos of users from this data. In this case filed in the Northern District of California, Baig said that after starting work in WhatsApp, he came to know about these security flaws. These flaws are violating the legal responsibilities of Meta along with federal laws. Even after complaining, no effort was made by the company to stop this. Beg said that three days after his complaint, he started getting negative feedback regarding work.
What has Meta said about this?
Meta has denied them by reacting to Baig’s allegations. A company spokesman said that it has become a pattern, in which the employees fired from the job on the basis of poor performance go among the people with incomplete claims. The spokesman said that the company is proud that it has a strong record about protecting people’s privacy.
