West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised questions on the Election Commission and SIR. He said that after the SIR, when the draft voter list is released, then people will realize the disaster created by the Election Commission and BJP. He has also made many allegations regarding the results of the recently held Bihar elections.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee challenged and said that if BJP tries to hurt me in Bengal, I will shake its foundation in the whole of India. He said, “The result of Bihar elections is the result of SIR, the opposition could not foresee the move of BJP there. If SIR is done in two-three years, we will support this process with all possible resources.”
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned whether conducting SIR in BJP-ruled states indicates that the Center accepts the presence of infiltrators there. “The Election Commission is no longer an impartial institution, it has become a BJP commission. BJP cannot compete with me politically nor can it defeat me,” he said at an anti-SIR rally.
He questioned that if the objective of SIR is to remove Bangladeshi citizens from the voter list then why is the Election Commission doing this process in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. She said, “I love Bangladesh as a country because we have the same language. I was born in Birbhum, otherwise I too would have been called Bangladeshi.”
CM Mamata Banerjee said, “If Rohingyas are entering, then where are they coming from? Who manages the border? The Center manages the border. CISF takes care of the airport. The central government also looks after the customs department. Who takes care of the Nepal border. How did we get this (infiltration) done? In an attempt to capture Bengal, BJP will lose in Gujarat in the next elections.”
He said, “SIR is not happening in Mizoram, Manipur, Assam. It is happening in Bengal because Bengal has to be captured. The British could not capture Bengal.”
