Railway Waiting List Types: Crores of people travel by train every day in the country. Indian Railways is not only the fourth largest network in the world. Rather, it is also an important part of the everyday life of crores of passengers. Due to such a large scale of ticket booking every day, it is not possible for everyone to get a confirmed seat. This is the reason why Railways has created different waiting list categories.

So that the booking system continues to work in an easy and systematic manner. Many people go to the waiting list while booking tickets. But they do not know in which waiting list the confirmation is received quickly and in which it is not. It is important for any traveler to know this so that the journey can be planned in a better way. Let us tell you the complete details.

What are the different waiting lists of trains?

There are many types of waiting lists in Indian Railways. Which have their own different meaning. The most common among these is GNWL i.e. General Waiting List. Which is connected to the station from where the train starts. If you have booked a ticket from the originating station and the seat is full. So your name goes in this list. Apart from this, RLWL i.e. Remote Location Waiting List is for those passengers who travel from any intermediate station.

PQWL i.e. Pool Quota Waiting List is for specific stations. Where the quota of seats is limited. Whereas TQWL i.e. Tatkal Waiting List is made for tickets booked through Tatkal quota. And this list is confirmed last. Apart from all these, there are some other categories like RLGN. Which is decided according to the route and station of the train.

Which waiting list gets confirmed first?

Now the question arises that which of these lists gets confirmed the fastest. According to railway rules, GNWL i.e. General Waiting List tickets are confirmed first. Because in this the cancellation is directly linked to the starting seats of the train. If tickets booked from originating stations are cancelled.

So GNWL people get priority. On the contrary, in RLWL and PQWL, tickets are confirmed only when already booked tickets on the same routes are cancelled. Whereas in TQWL the chances of confirmation are very less. Because seats in Tatkal quota are limited.
