In Haryana, Vikas Barala, accused in the sexual harassment case, was appointed as Assistant Advocate General, about which a political dispute has started. The Haryana government is rethinking the appointment of Vikas Barala. However, the investigation of the list has revealed that there are many other law officers who are relatives of many VIPs including leaders and bureaucrats.
Surprisingly, the Supreme Court has given strict instructions in this case in the year 2016. The Supreme Court had warned about such appointments that this process should be kept separate from politics.
Vikas Barala is the son of BJP leader Subhash Barala
In fact, on July 18, Vikas Barala, son of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and former President of Haryana BJP Subhash Barala, was nominated as one of the 97 law officials of the state.
In the report of The Indian Express, Advocate General Pravindra Singh Chauhan said that Vikas Barala has not taken charge yet. Giving clarification, he said that he was not aware of the background of Vikas Barala. However, now after the truth is revealed, he does not think that Barala will take charge.
‘Not kinship, appointments due to merit- Advocate General
Advocate General Pravindra Singh Chauhan also says that it is wrong to see everyone from the same perspective. He said, “I have seen newly appointed people working. They are all eligible lawyers. Not because of their surname, but because of their ability, they have reached this position. All the appointments have been on the basis of merit.”
Advertisement was released in January
The Haryana Attorney General Office issued an advertisement in January 2025 for 100 posts of law officers (including 20 additional Attorney General, 20 Senior Deputy Attorney General, 30 Deputy Attorney General and 30 Assistant Attorney General).
It was revealed that out of 97 people elected, at least 23 officers had relations with politicians, bureaucrats or judges.
