Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar praised Hardik Pandya and said that there is no other player like him in the national T20 team because this star all-rounder is capable of making a place in the team even as a specialist batsman or bowler.
Hardik, who was out of action for more than two months due to an injury during the Asia Cup, will return to the Indian team in the five-match home T20 series against South Africa.
Geostar expert Bangad said, “Look at all the all-rounders in world cricket. Does England have any player ready to replace Ben Stokes? There is no backup for Ravindra Jadeja even in ODI or Test cricket. Same is the situation with Hardik Pandya.
He said, “He (Pandya) can make it to the top five on the basis of his batting alone. If he were only a bowler, he could be one of the top three fast bowlers of any team.
Bangar said, “To become that kind of all-rounder, you should be able to make a place in the team on the basis of either your batting or bowling. There is no other player like Hardik Pandya in the Indian team.
Talking about Hardik’s workload management, Bangar said that this all-rounder should play at least the first three matches against South Africa. He said, “We have to see how he adjusts to the circumstances. It is too early to say whether he should play six or seven T20 matches before the World Cup or not.
“The team management should manage the workload of important players like him,” Bangar said. If a player like Hardik is fully fit, he creates balance and with his presence the team can create the desired combination. Therefore it is very important to have him in the team.
Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is also making a comeback after getting injured in the first Test match played against South Africa in Kolkata. Bangar said Gill’s progress as a Test captain will benefit him in other formats as well.
He said, “The confidence that Shubman Gill has gained after performing so well in Test cricket in the last one year will definitely help him. He has become a mentally stronger player. Taking on additional responsibility as Test captain has made him a better player. Now he understands what is expected of him.
