Former Indian cricketer and chief selector of the team, Chris Srikkanth has once again raised questions on the selection of Team India. He has expressed strong objection to the non-selection of Ruturaj Gaikwad for the ODI series against New Zealand. Gaikwad had scored a century in the ODI series against South Africa.
Chris Srikkanth took a jibe at the selectors and asked whether Ruturaj Gaikwad will now have to improve his wicket-keeping skills for selection in Team India.
Remove Reddy, bring Gaekwad
Chris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “Maybe Rituraj Gaikwad can say that he has played cricket with Dhoni, so I can also do wicketkeeping. Only in this way can he be selected in the team. Shreyas Iyer’s selection is certain, hence he gets a place in the team. But Gaikwad should also have been in the 15-man squad. Gaikwad should have been brought in the squad instead of Nitish Kumar Reddy.”
Targeted at selectors
The veteran cricketer further said that even if Rituraj Gaikwad scores a century, his place in the team is still not confirmed. Srikkanth sarcastically said that the selectors will now forget the century of Gaikwad which he had scored against South Africa. Therefore, now they will have to start again from zero and score a lot of runs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is in very good form at the moment, has played a century against South Africa. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he has so far scored 257 runs for Maharashtra in 5 matches at a good average of 64. During this period his strike rate has been 120.65.
Earlier, Chris Srikkanth had also criticized the continuous opportunities Harshit Rana was getting. Srikanth had said that Harshit Rana is in the team only for the presence of Gautam Gambhir.
