The case is of West Indies veteran batsman Shivnarayan Chandrapaul, who was known for his unique batting stance. Chandrapaul himself has admitted that he was forced to retire in 2016. A claim has come up after 9 years of his retirement, which said that Chandrapaul was asked to retire due to Brian Lara.
Brian Lara’s hand in retirement?
Brian Lara scored 11,953 runs in his Test career. At the same time, Shivnarayan Chandrapaul had scored 11,867 runs in Test career in 2015 by the conclusion of the Test series against England. Chandrapall was just 86 runs away from leaving Lara behind, but then he was dropped from the Test squad after the England series.
After the retirement of Chandrapaul, Brian Lara said that Chandrapaul should have got a retirement match. But in those days, rumors had flown that the board did not want to take the risk that Chandrapaul got a retirement match and go ahead of Lara in terms of runs.
The West Indies Cricket Board had advised Chandrapaul to take retirement by asking to give the youth a chance. When Shivnarayan Chandrapal himself talked about this subject, it was found that he was asked to retire by luring him to play in the Masters League. He received NOC for the Masters League, but Chandrapaul also revealed that the board had threatened to withdraw the NOC for not retirement from international career.
There was no other way
The pain of Shivnarayan Chandrapaul did not end here, because he had no other way left to continue the cricket career. Since the West Indies Cricket Board was not giving him a chance to return to the team, he had no option but to accept NOC for the Masters League.
