The year 2025 has been great for the Indian two-wheeler market. This year the sales of bikes and scooters have made a new record. Till now, more than 2 crore two-wheelers have been registered across the country. This is the first time that the sales figure has reached such a huge number. Although the expectations from the market were higher after the change in GST, yet this achievement is considered a big achievement in itself.
What do the registration figures tell?
- According to the data on the vehicle portal till 29 November 2025, the total two-wheeler registration between January and December 2025 has been around 20.2 million i.e. 2.02 crores. This number may increase further by the end of the year, because sometimes it takes a few days for the data to be updated. Between January and November 2025, an annual increase of about 7 percent was seen in registrations. At the same time, the number of vehicles reaching dealers from the factory was also more than last year.
The market got a big support from GST 2.0
- GST 2.0 played an important role in taking the two-wheeler market forward. Earlier, 28 percent GST was applicable on all two-wheelers. In the new system, GST on bikes and scooters up to 350cc was reduced to 18 percent. Due to this, most of the common models in the country became cheaper and customers bought more. Its effect was especially visible during the festive season, where sales broke all previous records.
Rural India becomes real growth engine
- According to FADA, an association of auto dealers, the biggest reason for two-wheeler sales this year was rural India. Purchasing power in villages has increased due to good monsoon, better crops and increased income of farmers. The demand for bikes and scooters in villages increased much faster than in cities. Especially a big jump was seen in the sales of commuter bikes and scooters. People’s interest in electric two-wheelers has also increased. Let us tell you that due to GST relief, better economic conditions and rural demand, this sector has reached new heights. If this pace continues in the coming years, the two-wheeler market can create even bigger records.
