The rapidly increasing cancer around the world has become a major health crisis for all countries today. In such a situation, according to a report published in The Lancet Journal, by 2050, cancer cases worldwide may increase by 61 percent and cross the number of three crores. How fast is cancer growing?
According to this report, in 2023 alone, 1.85 crore cases of cancer were reported, in which 1.04 crore people lost their lives. This means that 56% of the total cases could not be saved from dying. According to experts, these cases will increase twice as fast by 2050. There will be 3 crore cases and 1.08 crore deaths every year. In such a situation, if concrete steps are not taken to deal with it in time, then the situation may become even more serious in the future.
How much have cancer cases increased compared to before?
The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study details 47 types of cancer and 44 risk factors in 204 countries and territories. Also, this report shows that till the year 1990, the cases of cancer in the country were very less. But it has seen an increase with time. Most deaths among cancer patients are due to lung cancer and colorectal cancer. By the year 2023, deaths due to cancer have increased by 74 percent and now this number has reached 1.04 crores. It is expected to grow even more rapidly in the coming years.
Why are cancer cases increasing?
There is not just one but many reasons behind the increase of cancer. The biggest reason for this is the changing lifestyle of the people. This includes sleeping late, unhealthy diet, stress, smoking, drinking alcohol and many other unhealthy habits. Apart from this, in some cases the cause of cancer can also be genetic. Apart from this, obesity, diabetes at young age and PCOS are also among its probable causes.
