ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The ICC T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, started from Saturday i.e. 7th February. Everyone’s eyes are on Team India in this tournament. There is an interesting Indian addition to this T20 World Cup 2026. Many associate teams are captained by players of Indian origin. Associate teams like Netherlands, America, Nepal, Namibia, Oman, UAE and Canada are entering the field with strong intentions. These teams have made their place in the tournament through tough regional qualifiers.
Three players of Indian origin who captained foreign teams
1. Monank Patel (America)
Monank Patel was born on 1 May 1993 in Anand, Gujarat. Monank has represented Gujarat at the India Under-16 and Under-19 level. Jasprit has also played with Bumrah during his junior cricket days. After getting a green card in 2010, Monank moved to America in 2013. After settling in America, Monank again started his cricket career and made his ODI and T20 International debut in the year 2019. He has scored 920 runs for America in T20 International at an average of 27.87, which includes one century and 6 half-centuries. He has scored the only century in T20 International against Bahamas. After becoming the captain in the year 2021, Monank led a historic victory against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
2. Dilpreet Singh Bajwa (Canada)
Dilpreet Singh Bajwa, who captained Canada in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, was born on 26 January 2003 in Gurdaspur, Punjab. He laid his cricketing foundation in India, where he trained with coach Rakesh Marshall at the Government College Grounds and studied at Guru Arjun Dev School, Dhariwal. Before leaving India, Bajwa played a brilliant inning of 130 runs in the Under-19 match against Patiala. When he did not get much chance to play in India. His father Harpreet Singh and mother Harleen Kaur settled in Canada with their family in the year 2020. Bajwa made his T20 International debut against Bermuda in September 2023.
3. Jatinder Singh (Oman)
Jatinder Singh, born on March 5, 1989 in Ludhiana, Punjab, moved to Oman at an early age and started his cricket career there. Jatinder performed consistently well in Oman’s domestic cricket. Right-handed top order batsman Jatinder made his T20 International debut in 2015 and ODI debut in 2019. After becoming the captain in the year 2025, he took Oman to the Asia Cup for the first time, which is a historic achievement for him and the country.
