The National Drug Price Determination Authority (NPPA) has taken a big step to give relief to consumers. The authority has reduced the prices of 35 essential medicines. This decision has been taken by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on the basis of recommendation of NPPA. Prices will be benefited by patients suffering from chronic diseases like heart, diabetes, mental illness and infection.
Which drug prices decreased and in which disease are it helpful?
- 1. ASIClofenac-Percetamol-Tripsin Cymotripsin
- Disease: Pain and inflammation (after arthritis, injury, surgery)
- New price: Rs 13 per tablet (earlier up to Rs 15.01)
- 2. Amoxicillin-Potassium Clavulnet Combination
- Disease: Bacterial infection (throat infection, sinus, lung infection)
- 3. Atorvastatin + Clopidograil
- Disease: Heart disease, cholesterol and blood clot prevention
- New price: 25.61 urinary tract infection per tablet
- 4. Empagliflose, Citagliptin, Metformin (Oral Antidibitic)
- Disease: Type-2 Diabetes, Blood Sugar Control
- 5. Diclofenac injection
- Disease: Severe pain and inflammation (arthritis, injury, post-operative pen)
- New price: 31.77 urinary tract infection per ml
- 6. Safixime + Paracetamol (Oral Suspension)
- Disease: Fever in children and bacterial infections
- 7. Colacalciferol (Vitamin D drops)
- Disease: Vitamin D deficiency, bone strength
Strict action on breaking rules
If new prices are not followed, action will be taken under DPCO, 2013 and Essential Commodities Act, 1955. More recovered money will have to be returned with interest. All shopkeepers need to put a list of new medicines prices here.
Rules for pharmaceutical companies
The manufacturers will have to update the list of new prices to Form V and put it on the integrated pharmaceutical database management system. Also, NPPA and State Drug Officers will have to give its information.
GST rule
The NPPA has said that GST is not included in the fixed prices. GST will be installed separately. After this order, all the orders with old prices have been canceled.
What will be the benefit of patients?
Lowering the price of these drugs will give direct benefit to those who buy expensive medicines for a long time. Now the cost of treatment will be reduced and the burden on the pockets of the patients will be reduced. Experts believe that this step will help to make health services cheaper.
