From 2008 till now, there have been 5 teams which once played in the league but no longer play. The reasons for his withdrawal from the league are different.

Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers won the title in IPL 2009 under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma was also a part of this champion team. This was their first IPL title. In 2010, the team reached the semi-finals, in 2011 the team reached the playoffs. But due to financial crisis the team could not play further. The team owners could not give the required bank guarantee to BCCI, due to which their IPL contract got terminated. In 2013, Sunrisers Hyderabad was included in IPL in place of Deccan Chargers.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Kochi Tuskers Kerala was included in IPL 2011, but this team could play only 1 season. The captain of this team was Mahela Jayawardene, Ravindra Jadeja, Brendon McCullum were also in this team. The team won 6 out of 14 matches played in its only season. BCCI had terminated the contract of the team because this team also could not deposit its bank guarantee. When the matter reached the court, the court held BCCI guilty and decided to pay compensation of more than Rs 800 crore.

Pune Warriors India

Pune Warriors India entered the IPL from the 2011 season. This team played 3 seasons, but their performance in all of them was not good. Sahara Group had bought this team for about Rs 3000 crore, it was the most expensive team at that time. Sahara Group had bid for the team on the basis that there would be 94 matches every season, but BCCI had reduced the number of matches to 74. Sahara Group had demanded to reduce the franchise fees, which was not met.

Pune Warriors India played 3 seasons of IPL, but this team never reached the playoffs. In his last season, the team changed 3 captains, the first captain of this team was Sourav Ganguly.

Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant

In 2016 and 2017, when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended, now Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant were temporarily included in the IPL. The captaincy of Gujarat was taken over by Suresh Raina, under whose captaincy the team reached the playoffs in both the seasons.

In 2016, MS Dhoni took charge of Rising Pune Supergiant, but the team’s performance was not good and the team finished 7th. Steve Smith was the captain in 2017. In 2017, the team reached the finals, but lost to Mumbai Indians in the title match. When CSK and Rajasthan returned in 2018, the journey of these teams ended.
