
Sanchi Stupa was built by the Maurya emperor Ashoka in the third century. It is one of the oldest and famous Buddhist monuments in the world. This huge dome houses the relics of Buddha and is famous for its beautiful archways with amazing stone carvings on all four sides.

The Shore Temple located in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu is also included among those historical buildings of India which have been standing strong for 1000 years. The Shore Temple was built by Pallava king Narasimhavarman II in the eighth century. Situated on the banks of the Bay of Bengal, this temple is considered to be an excellent example of Dravidian style ancient architecture.

The Kailasa temple located in the caves of Ellora was built in the eighth century. It was built from top to bottom by carving a single rock. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is still known all over the world for its mystery and art.

The Khajuraho group of temples, built by the Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD, are known for their amazing sculpture and craftsmanship. The carvings here depict gods and goddesses, dance art and various aspects of life in great detail.

The Barabar caves, built during the reign of Emperor Ashoka in the third century, are counted among the oldest rock-cut structures of India. These caves are made of solid granite, whose walls still shine like glass.

Brihadeshwara Temple of Tamil Nadu was built by Rajaraja Chola I in 1010 AD. This temple is completely made of granite. This huge 200 feet high temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and a stone weighing 80 tons made of a single stone is placed on its top.

Lingaraja Temple, built in the 11th century, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple built in Kalinga style is about 180 feet high and many small temples are also built around it.

The Sun Temple of Konark was built in 1250 AD by King Narasimha Dev I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. This temple is dedicated to Sun God and is built in the shape of a huge chariot. In which there are seven horses and 24 wheels.

Virupaksha Temple located in Karnataka was built in the seventh century. This temple has been dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the most ancient structures of Hampi. Its tall gopuram, carved pillars and murals still reflect the prosperity of the Vijayanagara emperors.
