Whenever we talk about liver health, the first thing that comes to our mind is fried food, oily diet, alcohol, or excessive consumption of medicines. These things have a direct effect on the liver. But some small habits of your daily life can also harm your liver. Many times we unknowingly use such things daily which gradually have a bad effect on our liver and some of these things are present in our kitchen itself. The job of the liver is to remove the poison accumulated in the body, but when this poison becomes too much, the burden on the liver increases and due to this the liver starts becoming weak.
These utensils are more dangerous for the liver than food
1. Non-stick utensils – Non-stick utensils have become very common these days because the food gets cooked in less oil and does not stick. But this convenience can be detrimental to your health. When non-stick cookware gets too hot or gets scratched, they release chemicals like PFOA andPTFE. These chemicals gradually accumulate in the body and have a negative effect on the liver. According to research, their long-term use can cause diseases like fatty liver. In such a situation, replacing them with cast iron pan or stainless steel utensils is a better and healthier option.
2. Plastic Container – Many people store food in plastic containers or heat them in the microwave. This habit gives you convenience, but can be dangerous for your liver health. When plastic is heated, chemicals like BPA and Phthalates can be released from it. These affect hormones and affect the detox system of the body i.e. liver. Prolonged exposure to them can slow down liver function. In such a situation, to keep the liver healthy, use glass or steel containers to store food. If you want to heat food in the microwave, use only utensils labeled microwave-safe.
3. Aluminum utensils – Aluminum utensils are found in almost every Indian household because they are cheap, light and heat up quickly. But do you know that when you cook acidic things like tomato, tamarind, lemon in aluminum utensils, microscopic particles of aluminum can dissolve in the food. If excessive amount of aluminum accumulates in the body, it can have a bad effect on the liver. This can weaken the liver’s ability to cleanse itself and over time can lead to serious conditions like liver failure. Apart from this, aluminum can also increase neurological problems.
