Artificial Intelligence: Till now people have considered Artificial Intelligence as a smart assistant or a tool to increase productivity, but Google DeepMind co-founder and Chief AGI Scientist Shane Legg believes that AI can change the entire way of working in the coming decade. In an interview, he clearly said that AI is now reaching a stage where it will move beyond helping humans and start working on its own and this change can become the biggest threat to remote jobs.

The human mind is not the limit of AI

In fact, during a conversation with Professor Hannah Fry, Shane Legg said that it is wrong to believe that machines cannot surpass human intelligence. He says that data centers run on megawatts of energy, work at extremely high speed and can process such a large amount of information which is not possible for the human brain. According to him, this is not an imaginary future but a reality which is gradually emerging.

AI has overtaken humans in many areas

Legg believes that AI is already outperforming humans in areas such as language, general knowledge and information analysis. Its weaknesses will also reduce in the coming years, such as the ability to reason, visual understanding and the power of continuous learning. He estimates that AI will gradually surpass or surpass humans in coding, mathematics and professional tasks involving complex knowledge.

Why is remote jobs under threat?

The greatest risk is on those jobs which are done completely online and through computers. Legg’s simple rule is that if any work can be done sitting on the internet without physical presence then that job is in danger. As AI becomes more reliable and capable, companies may have less need for large teams working from home.

The biggest change will be seen in software engineering

According to Legg, this impact will be visible first and most clearly in the software industry. Where earlier 100 engineers were required for a project, in the future only 20 people may be enough, provided they use advanced AI tools. This will increase productivity but the number of jobs may decrease, especially in entry-level and remote roles.

Not just jobs, the entire economy will change

Legg says that AI will change not just some professions but the entire economic system. The system till now is based on the idea that people earn money in exchange for their mental or physical hard work. But if machines start doing large amounts of intellectual work better and cheaper than humans, then this model will no longer work as before.
