Bangladeshi Hindus are in extreme fear because of the brutal murder of Hindu youth Dipu Das by a mob in Bangladesh and the attacks on Hindus in the last 7-8 months. The fear of death is troubling him all the time. A young man there himself expressed this fear and refused to even reveal his name and identity. He says that even if he recognizes his voice, he might not be able to see the next morning.
Under the rule of Mohammad Yunus, fundamentalists have got a free hand, due to which the minority community is living in fear. Talking to India Today on the situation in the country, this Bangladeshi Hindu youth said that the minorities are scared. He said that we are alive, but we are living like walking corpses.
The Bangladeshi youth, on condition of anonymity, said that the fear is so great that if he is identified, he may die. He said, ‘If my face or voice is recognized then tomorrow morning may be my last morning.’
After the death of radical student leader Sharif Usman Hadi, who came into limelight after Sheikh Hasina’s coup, violence spread in Bangladesh and extremist groups started targeting Hindu houses even in remote areas. During this time, the incident of murder of Dipu Das came to light, due to which the entire Hindu community is living in fear.
On December 18, Dipu Das, who worked in a clothing factory in Mymensingh city, was murdered on charges of blasphemy. However, company commander of Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion Mohammad Shamsuzzaman says that till now no concrete evidence has been found that he committed blasphemy. He said that no evidence has been found to say that Dipu Das had written anything on Facebook that could hurt religious sentiments.
Dipu Das’s family says that their brother was murdered as part of a conspiracy. A senior advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh said on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) that the government will take responsibility for the family of the Hindu laborer who was murdered on charges of blasphemy last week.
Education advisor CR Abrar met the bereaved family of 25-year-old Dipu Das. Dipu Das was beaten to death by a mob in Mymensingh on 18 December and his body was set on fire. Abrar said, ‘The government has taken the responsibility of taking care of Dipu Das’s child, wife and parents.’ He described the murder of a garment factory worker as ‘a brutal crime’.
