Actually, during an action scene on the sets of ‘Coolie’, Puneet had to punch Amitabh Bachchan. Due to wrong timing, this punch actually hit Amitabh. Due to this, Amitabh Bachchan fell on a table and got seriously injured. His condition became so bad that he had to undergo surgery immediately. Prayers were sought for him across the country. This incident is considered one of the most scary and memorable episodes in the history of Bollywood. Puneet Issar had to suffer the biggest loss from this incident.
Didn’t get any work for six years
Puneet told in a digital interview that after this accident he did not get any work for six years. People started fearing him as an 8th degree black belt holder and misconceptions were created about him. Although it was only an accident, many people in the industry wrongly held him responsible. His 10 films were snatched away. Puneet said, “I was signed as the main villain at that time, but everything changed in a moment. People forgot that I was a gold medalist and trained artist from the Actors Studio.” At that time Puneet was only 23 years old.
Career started again
After this, Puneet Issar’s career gradually resumed with new roles and opportunities. He gained most recognition by playing the role of Duryodhana in the TV serial ‘Mahabharata’ (1988–1990), which established him as a strong screen performer. After this, he directed Abhishek Bachchan’s debut film ‘Refugee’, Salman Khan starrer ‘Garv: Pride and Honor’ (2004) and played the role of Salman’s brother-in-law in the film ‘Sanam Bewafa’. Apart from this, he has also appeared in Bigg Boss. These experiences helped him re-establish his identity. However, after this accident, Puneet never worked with Amitabh Bachchan again.
