Actually, for the lead role of ‘Anupama’, the makers had first approached Mona Singh and not Rupali Ganguly. This disclosure has been made by Mona Singh herself who is enjoying the success of the web series “The Bads of Bollywood”. According to Hindustan Times report, Mona said, “I was contacted for (the TV show) Anupama years ago. But by then, I had decided that I did not want to work on TV. So, I refused to do the show.”
At that point in her career, 44-year-old Mona had taken a conscious decision to focus on OTT projects and chose character-based roles. She further said that she does not take up roles “just for the sake of looks”. She says, “For me, what matters is whether the role makes me happy and connects with me. I don’t want to regret my decisions later or bring any negative energy to the set.”

After Mona Singh rejected the lead role of ‘Anupama’, this role went to actress Rupali Ganguly, who has been playing this character for the last five years. Regarding this, Mona says, “I am very happy for Rupali and (producer) Rajan Shahi. She is doing a very good job, I think this role was made for her, and she has played it very well.”
